For Cold Weather & Snow: Which Puffer Coat Should You Choose?
All three DJANGO puffer coats have insulation for winter warmth. The biggest differences are their fit ranges, how the fabrics feel, and the details that make each one easier to wear. Choose for your dog's needs rather than relying on a single temperature cutoff.
Whistler Winter Dog Coat — $59
Choose Whistler if: You need a reliable insulated coat for snowy walks, cold-weather adventures, or a dog who needs a larger size. It's the only DJANGO coat in this comparison with sizes extending through XL, for many dogs up to approximately 90 lbs.
What sets it apart: Adjustable neck and chest closures, reflective piping for low-light visibility, elastic rear leg loops, and a sleeveless cut that leaves the legs free to move.
Compared with Snowline: Pick Whistler for broader sizing, reflective details, and an adjustable neck-and-chest design. Pick Snowline when a particularly soft feel is the priority for a smaller dog.
Consider another style if: If you mostly need protection from mild rain rather than insulated warmth, consider the lighter City Slicker.

Snowline™ Puffer Dog Coat — $55
Choose Snowline if: You want a warm, incredibly soft puffer for your small dog's everyday winter walks. The flexible polyester shell and cozy striped lining give it a comfortable, easy-to-wear feel.
What sets it apart: Oversized armholes for natural movement, lightweight insulation, a simple hook-and-loop chest closure, and an adjustable hem.
Compared with Reversible: Both offer insulated warmth in the same XS–L size range. Choose Snowline for its particularly soft fabric and striped lining; choose Reversible for a nylon shell and two looks in one.
Consider another style if: If your dog needs a larger size or reflective trim for low-light walks, consider Whistler.
Reversible Puffer Dog Coat — $49
Choose Reversible if: You want a practical winter puffer that doubles as two different outfits. One side has a sleek water-repellent nylon finish; flip it over for a distinctive plaid look.
What sets it apart: A true reversible design, lightweight insulation, roomy armholes, and an adjustable hem. For snow, slush, and light rain, wear the nylon side facing outward.
Compared with Snowline: The fit range and winter purpose are very similar. The deciding factor is usually which fabric and style you prefer.
Consider another style if: If an exceptionally soft exterior and cozy striped lining matter more than reversible styling, consider Snowline.

For Rain & Changing Weather: Highland or City Slicker?
Both are water-repellent jackets for wet, windy days. Highland provides more coverage and a little extra lined warmth; City Slicker is lighter, more streamlined, and often a better starting point for low-to-the-ground dogs.
For milder days and changeable forecasts, browse our lightweight dog jackets and windbreakers collection.
Highland Dog Jacket & Raincoat — $59
Choose Highland if: Your dog needs coverage for rainy, muddy, chilly walks—and you love the idea of a lined jacket with a hood. Its short sleeves and fuller chest and upper-belly coverage help protect areas that get splashed first.
What sets it apart: Soft striped lining, adjustable hood that snaps back, short sleeves, an adjustable hem, and a covered harness opening. It adds light warmth, but doesn't replace an insulated puffer for truly cold conditions.
Fit consideration: Check sleeve clearance, especially for very short-legged dogs. If the sleeves sit too low, consider the sleeveless City Slicker instead.
Consider another style if: For very short-legged dogs whose legs don't clear Highland's sleeves, consider the sleeveless City Slicker.
City Slicker Dog Jacket & Raincoat — $49
Choose City Slicker if: You need a lighter jacket for rainy or windy walks, milder temperatures, travel, or a dog with a long back and shorter legs. Its sleeveless shape leaves the front legs free, while the longer cut helps cover the torso.
What sets it apart: Breathable sport-mesh lining, reflective piping, adjustable neck and chest closures, rear leg loops, and a packable, flexible shell.
Compared with Highland: Choose City Slicker for less bulk, easier leg movement, and longer back coverage. Choose Highland for a hood, sleeves, fuller belly protection, and light lined warmth.
Consider another style if: For cold, snowy walks that call for insulation, consider Whistler, Snowline, or Reversible Puffer.

Three Things to Check Before You Buy
- Think about your dog's actual weather. For regular cold and snow, start with an insulated puffer. For wet, mild, or changeable days, a rain jacket may be more practical. A dog's coat type, age, activity level, and sensitivity to cold also matter; there's no one temperature rule for every dog.
- Measure chest girth and back length. Measure around the widest part of the rib cage and from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. A coat should close comfortably and cover the back without restricting walking, sitting, or bathroom breaks. Always check the individual product's size chart. Our dog measuring guide can help.
- Consider legs, layers, and harness access. Very short-legged dogs may prefer a sleeveless cut. All five styles have a leash portal for a harness underneath; allow enough room for it without making the coat loose. For milder fall days or a soft layer under an outer coat, see our dog hoodies.

Dog Coat Comparison FAQs
What is the difference between Snowline and the Reversible Puffer?
Both are lightweight insulated winter coats in sizes XS–L for dogs approximately 5–30 lbs. Snowline focuses on an exceptionally soft polyester exterior and cozy striped lining. Reversible uses a durable water-repellent nylon side plus a plaid reverse, giving you two looks in one coat.
Should I choose Highland or City Slicker for my dachshund?
City Slicker is usually the better starting point for very low-to-the-ground dachshunds: it has no sleeves and offers longer back coverage. Highland can be a lovely choice if your dog's legs clear the short sleeves comfortably and you want more lined chest and belly protection. Compare chest girth and coat length before ordering.
Can my dog wear a raincoat instead of a winter coat?
For mild, wet weather, yes. For genuinely cold walks or snow, a coat with insulation—Whistler, Snowline, or Reversible—is generally the better starting point. Highland offers light lined warmth between the two categories, while City Slicker is primarily a lightweight weather shell.
Are DJANGO dog coats waterproof?
Our five coats are water-repellent, meaning their fabrics help shed moisture, rain, snow, and slush during typical walks. Water-repellent isn't the same as fully waterproof: for long exposure to heavy rain, a purpose-built waterproof shell may be more appropriate.
