A Horizontal Dog Carrier Backpack for Small Dogs
Whether you’re hiking with a small dog, exploring the city, sightseeing, running errands, or giving a senior or tired pup a comfortable break, the DjangoPack™ keeps your dog supported on all fours inside a structured horizontal dog carrier backpack.
Designed for small dogs of many breeds and body shapes up to 20–25 lbs depending on proportions, the backpack carrier gives your pet a secure, breathable ride while keeping you comfortable and hands-free.

Built Like Real Hiking Gear
Comfortable Carry for Walks, Travel, and Trails
With padded shoulder straps, a breathable mesh back panel, adjustable sternum strap, and removable hip belt, the DjangoPack is built to carry more like a real hiking pack — not a flimsy pet bag.
The supportive backpack design helps distribute weight more comfortably across your shoulders and hips, making longer walks, city days, sightseeing, and trail adventures easier on your body.

All-Season Airflow
Breathable Mesh and Roll-Back Windows
Wide-grid mesh panels and roll-back side windows help create steady airflow while giving your dog extra visibility and headroom on the go. Whether you’re out for a summer walk, weekend hike, or long travel day, the DjangoPack helps your pup stay cool, calm, and comfortable.

Supportive for Dachshunds & Long Dogs
Horizontal Support for Back-Sensitive Breeds
Unlike upright dog backpack carriers that hold dogs in a vertical position, the DjangoPack features a structured horizontal base that lets your dog ride naturally on all fours.
This supportive design is especially helpful for dachshunds, corgis, senior dogs, and other small or long-backed breeds who fit within the carrier’s weight and back length guidelines.
Best fit, best uses
Is the DjangoPack Right for Your Dog?
The DjangoPack™ may also be a great fit for other small breeds and mixes, including Bichon Frises, Italian Greyhounds, Jack Russell Terriers, Miniature Pinschers, Miniature Schnauzers, Papillons, Pekingese, Rat Terriers, Toy Poodles, and similar small dogs who fit within the carrier’s weight and back length guidelines.
Best for dogs who fit comfortably within the carrier’s weight and back length guidelines and benefit from a structured, horizontal, all-fours riding position. For puppies, the DjangoPack™ can be a wonderful way to introduce carrier travel, but always supervise closely — puppy teeth can damage mesh, zippers, fabric, and other soft materials.
If your dog is over the recommended weight range, has a very long back length, needs an airline-approved carrier, or requires a hard-sided crate-style carrier, the DjangoPack™ is likely not the best option.
If your dog is still teething or loves to chew, use extra caution and supervise all carrier time closely.
I absolutely love this bag. Our dog hates riding in a bag that forces him to be vertical. This lets him rest in a natural position and is so much more comfortable for me to hike with him. I’m thrilled and cannot recommend it enough. I had been searching for something exactly like this!
I've reviewed a lot of dog carrier backpacks over the years and am a self-professed gear snob. I think the DJANGO pack is one of the best on the market.
This backpack was a game changer on our hike! We have a couple backpacks, and this by far is the most comfortable. It exceeded all of our expectations! Thanks for making such great quality stuff for all the adventure pups out there.
Great bag for my dachshund. He fits perfectly and love the double sided opening for his head. Very comfortable on the back as well.
This thing is great! My Jack Russell fits in there very comfortably. Having this as our daypack means we can have all of our usual hiking necessities with us, but I also have room for her when she gets tired. This is a great value and has enormous space for camel packs, water bottles, laptops, gps equipment, survival tools, and even the dog! I'm so happy I got this!
I love this doggy backpack! It’s spacious and comfortable. My dog is about 18 pounds and fitted in the bag, and there was plenty more vertical and horizontal space. Highly recommend this bag for your pup!
FAQ
The DjangoPack™ is designed for small dogs and cats up to approximately 20–25 lbs, depending most importantly on back length, height, and overall body shape. Weight matters, but it does not tell the full story — especially for long-bodied breeds like dachshunds and corgis.
For the most accurate sizing guidance, please use the DjangoPack™ Fit Guide near the Add to Cart button before ordering. Simply enter your dog’s weight and back length, measured from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and the guide will let you know whether your pup is likely to be a strong fit, a compact fit, or not recommended.
Backpack dimensions: 14" base width, 10" base depth, and 18.5" backpack height.
Yes! The DjangoPack™ is especially popular with dachshund owners because it has a strong, supportive horizontal base that lets dogs ride supported on all fours instead of sitting upright in a vertical position.
This is especially important for dachshunds and other small dogs with long backs, sensitive backs, or increased IVDD risk, since many pet parents want to avoid carriers that force their dog into an upright or unnatural position. The DjangoPack™ is a wonderful option for many miniature dachshunds, tweenie dachshunds, and some standard dachshunds who fit within the carrier’s weight and back length guidelines.
Because dachshunds vary so much in length and body shape, we strongly recommend using the DjangoPack™ Fit Guide before ordering. For dachshunds especially, back length matters more than weight alone.
Your dog should be able to ride naturally on all fours inside the DjangoPack™, with their body supported by the structured base. Most dogs will stand, sit, or rest in a cozy, compact position while riding.
Because the DjangoPack™ is a backpack-style carrier, it is not designed for most dogs to lie fully stretched out. Rather, it is designed to keep your dog securely and comfortably supported while you walk, hike, travel, or explore hands-free. The side windows can also be rolled back and secured open, giving your pup extra headroom, airflow, and visibility when you are on the go.
For the best experience, your dog should have enough room to settle comfortably without being folded, squeezed, or forced into an unnatural position.
No. The DjangoPack™ is not marketed as an airline-approved under-seat carrier. It is designed for hiking, city outings, sightseeing, errands, train travel, car travel, and everyday hands-free adventures with your dog.
For air travel, we recommend choosing a soft-sided airline carrier that meets your specific airline’s current under-seat size requirements. Airline rules and aircraft space can vary, so always check directly with your airline before flying with your pet.
Yes, absolutely. The DjangoPack™ is designed to carry like a real hiking pack, with padded shoulder straps, a breathable mesh back panel, an adjustable sternum strap, and a removable hip belt to help distribute weight more comfortably.
It is a great option for small dogs who may need a break during hikes, long walks, city days, sightseeing, or travel. For longer outings, we always recommend checking in with your dog often, monitoring their temperature and comfort, and offering breaks as needed.
Yes and yes. The DjangoPack™ includes an interior safety leash that can attach to your dog’s harness for added security inside the carrier. For your dog’s safety and wellbeing, we always recommend attaching the safety leash to a well-fitting harness rather than a collar.
The DjangoPack™ also features premium YKK locking zippers. This means the zippers lock securely in place when closed, preventing your dog from nudging or pushing the zippers open from inside the backpack while you are on the go.
The DjangoPack™ was thoughtfully designed with long-backed and back-sensitive breeds in mind. Unlike upright dog backpack carriers, the DjangoPack™ has a structured horizontal base that supports your dog on all fours in a more natural riding position.
That said, every dog is different. If your dog has IVDD, a recent injury, current back pain, mobility issues, or any medical condition, please ask your veterinarian whether backpack carrier use is appropriate for your dog before ordering or using the carrier.
Yes. The quilted bed cover can be removed from the sturdy base insert and machine washed separately on a gentle cycle with cold water. Line dry completely before reassembling.
The backpack exterior and interior lining can be wiped clean as needed.
The DjangoPack™ is often a great fit for small dogs including Bichon Frises, Boston Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chihuahuas, Corgis, Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, Havanese, Italian Greyhounds, Jack Russell Terriers, Maltese, Miniature Pinschers, Miniature Poodles, Miniature Schnauzers, Papillons, Pekingese, Pomeranians, Pugs, Rat Terriers, Shih Tzus, Toy Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, and other small breeds who fit within the carrier’s weight and back length guidelines.
Because every dog is shaped differently, breed alone does not guarantee fit. The best way to confirm whether the DjangoPack™ is right for your dog is to use the DjangoPack™ Fit Guide near the Add to Cart button before ordering.
