Raw dog food has become increasingly popular over the years. The unprocessed, nutrient-dense, and biologically appropriate diet has been linked to many canine health benefits—skin and coat health, allergy relief, weight management, healthier stools, and joint inflammation relief (to name a few!). These days, you can find the most popular frozen and freeze-dried commercial raw dog food brands in almost every big box and boutique pet store.
What exactly is raw dog food? In a nutshell, raw dog food consists of uncooked and unprocessed ingredients, mainly raw animal muscle and organ meat, bones, and sometimes vegetables and fruits. It can be homemade, store-bought freeze-dried, or store-bought frozen. Raw dog food is considered biologically appropriate for dogs and consistent with their digestive makeup. If you want to learn more, here is a great DJANGO Dog Blog article that offers a comprehensive overview of raw dog food.
Mike and I (Steph) began feeding raw dog food to our long-haired dachshund, Django, back in 2022. Since then, we've always been on the lookout for the best raw dog food brands. One reputable brand we recently discovered is Oma's Pride.
Interestingly, Oma's Pride is anything but new. In fact, the Connecticut-based company has been manufacturing raw dog food since the 90s—longer than anyone else on the market!
In this DJANGO Dog Blog article, we provide a detailed review of premium raw dog food company Oma's Pride and their most popular raw dog food recipes. We also provide our thoughts on several Oma's Pride treats, toppers, and raw meaty bones.
Oma's Pride doesn't do discounts often, but you can currently get 25% off your Oma's Pride order with code DJANGO25 at checkout. These Oma's Pride discounts won't last long, so make sure you take advantage of them sooner than later.
Oma's Pride is a fourth generation, family-owned-and-operated raw pet food company. Located in Avon, Connecticut, the company introduced its raw pet food line back in the 90s and has since expanded its offering to over 140 different SKUs. You can now find Oma's Pride in over 1,000 retail stores in the United States. They also ship nationwide via their website, omaspride.com.
There are a few things that, in my opinion, truly separate Oma's Pride from other raw dog food retailers:
Oma's Pride offers two popular raw dog food options for customers: Woof Complete and Signature Mix. These are very similar raw dog food options, and the recipes across both are almost identical. The 3 key differences between Woof Complete and Signature Mix are:
No matter which Oma's Pride subscription and recipes you are considering, the quality of all recipes and ingredients is unparalleled. As you can see in our 'Ingredients and Guaranteed Analysis' graphic below, each Oma's Pride raw dog food subscription:
Although I love the variety of recipes offered in the Signature Mixes subscription plan, I personally prefer Woof Complete for my dachshund, Django. Why? For one, Django is a "tweenie" dachshund weighing only 12 lbs. His meal portions are relatively small. The Woof Complete patties make it incredibly easy to feed Django. We can remove one 4 oz. patty from its package, thaw it quickly, and use it completely before thawing another patty. The patty portion sizes are perfect for a small dog.
With the 2 lb. Signature Mix recipes, we have to thaw the entire 2 lbs. of frozen food which isn't as quick nor convenient. I will point out, however, that the food can be re-frozen as needed. For dogs like Django that don't go through all 2 lbs. of food within 4 days (the maximum recommended refrigeration period), this ensures food is never wasted.
The second key reason I prefer the Woof Complete raw dog food subscription is because its recipes are enhanced with vitamins and minerals and formulated to meet or exceed AAFCO standards. I have peace of mind knowing that the meal in Django's dinner bowl provides him with both premium animal proteins and proper ratios of essential minerals and vitamins.
Above: Dinner time! In the Woof Complete recipe, you can see every ingredient, including the green pieces of broccoli and kale and orange pieces of squash.
There are only a handful of dog food meals that Django gets truly excited for. Oma's Pride has quickly become one of these meals for Django. When we're preparing Django's bowl with Oma's Pride, Django will intentionally sneeze at us (does anyone else's dog do this!?) and constantly lick his lips. He'll also do this little dance where he backs up and then jumps back towards us with excitement.
If I had to guess, the quality and freshness of Oma's Pride proteins are wildly appealing to Django's senses. Perhaps the fact that Django is genetically designed to digest raw protein also triggers some animal instinct inside his sausage dog brain. Either way, his outsized reaction when we pull his Oma's Pride out of our refrigerator at meal time is evidence that he's a very happy dog. So long as he responds this way to Oma's Pride—and so long as the food continues to be agreeable with his digestive system—we'll happily continue feeding the meals to Django.
Django absolutely loves Oma's Pride's Beef Marrow raw meaty bones. I might even go so far as to say that these raw meaty bones are his favorite all-time treat.
Django seems to truly love the taste and stimulation these raw meaty bones offer. He will work at the bone for 30-45 minutes until every tiny piece of meat is devoured and the bone is picked clean.
Raw meaty bones are uncooked bones with attached meat, tissue, and cartilage. They come from a variety of animals—chicken, turkey, pork, duck, and more—and provide calcium and other essential nutrients and minerals for dogs. They are an incredibly tasty and rewarding treat for dogs while also providing mental and physical stimulation. As mentioned above, Django will happily gnaw on his Oma's Pride bones for 30 minutes or more!
Oma's Pride offers several popular recreational raw meaty bones for dogs including Django's favorite Beef Marrow Bone, the Split Beef Knuckle Bone, Skinless Chicken Necks, and more. Since Django is a small dog with a huge appetite, we only give him a raw meaty bone once every two weeks or so. Other dog owners might want to feed their pups one of these raw meaty bones 1-2 times a week (leaving a few days in between each treat).
As a reference, Django enjoys the 2-3" Beef Marrow Bones from Oma's Pride which are recommended for dogs up to 25 lbs. Oma's Pride also offers raw meaty bones for medium, large, and XL dog breeds.
Above: Oma's Pride Beef Marrow Raw Meaty Bones are probably Django's favorite treat ever. No exaggeration.
I've always gone out of my way to find the best single-ingredient dog treats for Django. Why?
Two of our all-time favorite single ingredient dog treats for Django are the Beef Lung and Lamb Lung treats from Oma's Pride. Both are made from 100% raw premium USA raised protein. Django loves these treats. Also, unlike other very smelly treats we've come across, both of these are low in odor.
I've always enjoyed adding toppers to Django's breakfast and dinner bowls—strawberries, plain baked salmon, and egg are a few of his favorites. We recently ordered Oma's Pride's raw 'Whole Sardines' to use a topper for Django's breakfast and dinner bowls.
Sardines are incredibly healthy for both dogs and cats and provide countless nutritional benefits including:
As you can see in the image below, Oma's Pride's 'Whole Sardines' are quite big and come in a 1 lb. frozen package. They also have a very fishy smell, like all sardines.
Since Django is a smaller dog, we thaw one sardine at a time and keep the rest of the package in the freezer. We'll add a tablespoon of the chopped sardines to Django's bowl for added nutrition.
Does Django love these sardines? Truthfully, he seems a bit on the fence about every sardine we've tried, including these. He eats these happily, but he doesn't express the same level of excitement over these as he does with his Oma's Pride raw dog food, raw meaty bones, and raw dog treats.
Above: Oma's Pride's raw 'Whole Sardines' are a very healthy and nutritious topper for dogs' dinner bowls.
If you're on the fence about where to buy raw dog food, raw meaty bones, or raw dog treats and toppers, you cannot go wrong with Oma's Pride. Oma's Pride is a pioneer in the raw pet food industry and has decades of experience, happy customers, and positive reviews behind it. As we mentioned earlier in the article, Oma's Pride has been manufacturing commercial raw pet food longer than anyone else in the United States!
Django absolutely loves the raw dog food recipes we've ordered from Oma's Pride, and he drools and licks his lips like crazy whenever we thaw a Beef Marrow Bone for him. We've also had zero issues with Django's digestion or stools. He responded really well to a transition to Oma's Pride and continues to love getting these meals in his breakfast and dinner bowls.
Whether you're looking to try raw dog food for the first time, add a few new raw dog treats or toppers to your dog's diet, or are a long-term and die-hard raw pet food fan, we absolutely recommend Oma's Pride. They are a reputable USA company, they offer fantastic customer service, and they're raw dog food products are second to none.

Even if your dog is the most well-trained pup, pee accidents happen. Our dachshund Django, for instance, is well trained and housebroken. Every so often, however, Django will have a pee accident in our house. Usually this happens when we're distracted by work or busy with our toddlers and forget to take Django outside on time. Occasionally a pee accident will happen simply because Django gets super excited and can't control his bladder.
